If you have never written a search warrant for the seizure of digital evidence or need assistance with the on-site collection of
digital evidence, contact a forensic examiner at the NTRCFL by calling the main office number listed above. There are examples of affidavit language and a sample consent to search form linked below. Also, view the Search and Seizure Slideshow.
If you have already seized the evidence by consent to search or search warrant, then download the Request for Service Form and the Evidence Receipt Form and print them using Acrobat. Fill out the forms completely. The next step would be to fax the Request for Service form to us at the number listed above, bring it with the evidence or include it in the shipped package. Evidence submitted without legal authority will not be examined until the proper document is submitted.
If you plan to deliver the evidence in person, please call ahead to be sure that someone will be at the lab to receive it.
For driving directions, see the linked map. Remember that we are in the historic West End of Dallas and surrounded by many nice restaurants.
If you ship the evidence to us, we recommend Federal Express, signature required. Ship to:
NTRCFL
Attn: ECT
301 North Market Street, suite 500
Dallas, Texas 75202
As always, evidence should first be processed by the local agency’s evidence system and packaged properly to prevent
loss of data due to knocks and drops. A receipt will be faxed back to you if requested, otherwise, it will be sent when the case is complete.
Processing time depends upon the urgency of the case and any time-sensitive issues. Be sure to consult with an examiner
and make them aware of any issues that require priority treatment.
Remember that simply booting-up a Windows computer could change up to 650 files!
